A modern preventive assessment is not a hunt for everything. It is a structured, plain-English look at the few things that matter — the heart, the liver, the brain, the major organs — read together, by the same team, in a single morning.
Most preventable disease starts on a scan before it starts on you. The disc that will pinch a nerve in a year is already visible. The fatty liver that will become metabolic disease in five is already measurable. Catch it now and you keep your choices open — surgery becomes optional, medication becomes targeted, the conversation stops being about damage control.
Bloods tell you how the engine is running. Imaging tells you what the engine looks like. Neither, on its own, is enough. A normal blood panel can sit beside an early lesion that only an MRI sees; a clean scan can sit beside a hormone shift that only the bloods catch. At Checkpoint the two are read together, by the same consultant, on the same morning.
No screen finds everything. Some cancers are too small to see today. Some diseases are decided by genes you have not measured yet. The honest job of preventive imaging is to find what is findable now — and to tell you, plainly, what we did not look at and why.
The body does not split into scan modalities. The heart is read with a CT, a blood panel and a stress test together; the liver with imaging and bloods; cancer screening reaches across half a dozen organs at once. Six places we look — each with the scans that contribute.

Coronary calcium and structural cardiac CT show the arteries themselves. An ECG and a stress test show how the heart behaves under load. Bloods catch the lipids and inflammatory markers that ride underneath — most preventable cardiac disease shows up here years before symptoms.

Fatty liver is the most common chronic liver disease in the UK, and it is silent until it is advanced. FibroScan reads stiffness and fat fraction in ten minutes; Perspectum adds multi-organ MRI analysis; bloods catch the insulin and thyroid drift that often sits alongside.

Whole-body MRI sweeps brain, abdomen, pelvis and major vessels for soft-tissue masses and organ lesions in a single radiation-free study. Mammogram, prostate MRI and endoscopy step in where the imaging would otherwise miss — breast, prostate and the GI lining.

Brain, spine & nerves
A whole-body MRI reads cortex, white matter, ventricles and vasculature for silent strokes and early atrophy patterns, and screens cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine in the same continuous scan. The neurological exam at the start of the day puts a clinical floor under the imaging.

Thyroid, sex hormones, vitamin D, B12, iron and the inflammatory panel all sit inside the advanced bloods. Most NHS GPs cannot order the full set, and the parts they can order are rarely read together. Here they are read in one sitting, by your consultant, alongside the imaging.

DEXA-grade body composition measures lean mass, fat mass and bone density — the same numbers a sports physician would track. FibroScan adds a visceral-fat fraction on top. Together they replace the bathroom scale with a number you can act on.

A good preventive assessment is honest about what it does not see. Three places where a scan, on its own, will not be enough.
Some cancers and infections only show on tissue, not on images. Bloods catch some, not all. We will tell you what a scan would and would not have seen.
A scan will not read sleep, stress or alcohol. We ask, you tell us, and the consultation does the rest — the numbers sit better against an honest account of the year.
Imaging finds today’s structure. For tomorrow’s risk — a BRCA carrier, a Lynch family — we refer for genomic testing as an add-on.

MRI uses no ionising radiation — it can be repeated year on year without cumulative risk. Cardiac CT uses a low dose, comparable to a few months of natural background radiation, and the calcium score is one of the most predictive single tests in cardiology. Bloods, ECG, FibroScan and ultrasound use no radiation at all.
Often years before symptoms. A fatty liver is measurable on FibroScan a decade before liver enzymes drift. Coronary calcium shows up on CT before the first chest pain. Whole-body MRI finds organ lesions at a size where the surgical or medical answer is still the easy one.
